چکیده

background: malaria is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in nepal. the magnitude of malaria across the country is alarming and varies with location. therefore, the present study aimed to model malaria incidence rates during 1998 to 2009 in nepal. methods: data for the study were obtained from health management information system (hmis), ministry of public health. a negative binomial model was used to fit malaria incidence rates as a function of year and location and provided a good fit, as indicated by residual plots. results: in total, 83,345 cases of malaria were reported from 1998 to 2009. â  the mean incidence rate was 0.30 per 1000 population. the models show trends and spatial variations in disease incidence. there was decreasing trend in the incidence rates of malaria (1998-2004), followed by a more moderate upward trend until 2008, when the rate decreases again. zero malaria incidences occurred in six districts including humla, jajarkot, manang, kathmandu, bhakthapur and solukhumbu districts for over twelve years. higher incidence occurred in kanchanpur, kailali, bardiya, kavre, and jhapa districts for the study period. conclusion: malaria is still a public health problem in nepal. this study showed a steady decreasing trend in malaria incidence but the numbers of cases are still very high. higher rates were observed in terai region and border areas. these findings highlight the need for more systematic and effective malaria control measures on malaria burden areas of nepal.

Effects of immigration on malaria incidence and its foci classification

Introduction: Population movement and immigration from malarious areas to non endemic will increase the risk of malaria transmission. Immigration could be lead to role back malaria and changing clear up to potential even residual active foci. The purpose of this study is the effect of foreign immigrant on the malaria incidence and focal malaria classification in Konarak County, Iran. Met...

Prediction of the Cancer Incidence in Nepal

Background: The burden of cancer will increase both in males and females in Nepal. Due to the unavailability of a population based cancer registry it is difficult to precisely predict of future incidence rates. However, using hospital-based data to predict the cancer incidence in Nepal it was found that it will certainly increase both in males and females from 2013 to 2020. Material and Methods...

Malaria Endemicity Effect on Incidence and Mortality Rate of COVID-19 in Some Malaria-Endemic Regions of Iran; An Ecological Study (2020-21)

Background: According to recent reports during the COVID-19 pandemic, malaria-endemic regions have a significantly lower COVID-19 case and mortality rate than those malaria-non-endemic.  This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of COVID-19 in malarious areas of southern Iran and the incidence of disease in people previously infected with malaria. Materials and Methods: We conducted an ecolo...

Bayesian spatio-temporal modeling of mortality in relation to malaria incidence in Western Kenya

INTRODUCTION The effect of malaria exposure on mortality using health facility incidence data as a measure of transmission has not been well investigated. Health and demographic surveillance systems (HDSS) routinely capture data on mortality, interventions and other household related indicators, offering a unique platform for estimating and monitoring the incidence-mortality relationship in spa...
